On my limited edition road car MINI GP2, the Kumho V700A is a factory standard tyre. However the tread wear is poor, and when Kumho discontinued this line, it was time for me to find a more durable replacement. In general the V720 is fantastic for road use, it doubles as a fairly neat track tyre with well balanced composition, medium sideway & can withstand several heat cycles, without destroying the tyre compound or sacrificing grip come round two. A slight wail in Highway driving, lends them to be more “track/sport” orientated, however you can’t beat them for grip on a dry day through country roads. Whilst road noise might have your ears ringing by the end of a 2hr Highway hike, you’ll thank yourself for buying a set when you out corner the competition & feel like a star doing it! The general pricing around Australia is affordable & makes these a hot contender to the Michelin PS4 which offer a similar road handling experience at a higher price. Similarly specced is the Nankang AR-1, which can’t be beaten on price, however the Kumho outlasts in heat cycles, has better water wicking & the slightly harder compound without stiffening the sidewall, which means the tread depth lasts longer & the tyre rolls with you. I use these tyres on my road going MINI GP, and both of my Tarmac Rally MINI GP’s as they last the distance & give fantastic water breaking over the surface of the tyre. Whilst my Tyres only last between 4,000kms & 12,000kms, I find these a ripper bargain, at the top end of durable, great for all conditions, I am able to put all of the power down without chirping wheels & a super first buy for the grass-roots Motorsport enthusiast dipping their toe in the water. These tyres do need 5-10min of warming up. They do give the car the confidence and grip that other tyres don't. They are noisy and more unforgiving on bumps due to a double sidewall. In the wet they are also very good due to the design of the tread pattern. Also, these tyres should be inflated at about 26-30psi . They don't like being inflated to higher pressures. They become too rough and the traction isn't as good. If you have a GTI car...then these are the tyres for you. If you want comfort, then look elsewhere.

As expected, dry grip is excellent on road and track. Good, though not excellent feedback, however they allow for swift directional changes without feeling too 'mushy' and proved excellent when stopping under load. NVH is adequate. Slightly less noise and vibration than my NT05's prior however more than the usual UHP category.Wet grip is good, although not recommended for spirited driving and chicane-like islands and S-bends in Winter as expected. Depending on the car, they WILL get tail happy on a straight damp road.Wear was worse than the NT05, which could come down to driving styles at the time although they seem to  have approx. 30% left in them. An impressive and affordable alternative in the affordable EHP category.

No matter the conditions these tyres have you confident behind the wheel of a FWD MINI JCW GP. This car is only 1Ton and requires all the help it can get from Tyres. The Kumho V720 not only is excellent on the road and doesn’t wear quickly, but even better on Tasmania’s windy roads and track conditions. A solid Motorsport Tyre for any enthusiast!
