Cooper Discoverer ATT Long Term Review

Jhon's long term written review about the Cooper Discoverer ATT, equipped to his Toyota Rav4 SUV

The look & feel of the Cooper Discoverer ATT tyre

I personally love the look of the Cooper Discoverer ATT tyres. Chunky enough to look tough, but not over the top. After a good 15.000km the tread looks near new & will last us quite a few more KM’s. A great tyre for SUV’s such as our Toyota RAV4 & well worth its investment.

Comfort of these tyres is 5 out of 5. Feedback from the road coming through without any problems. Steering and responsiveness of these tyres was more than adequate for our driving on and off road (where possible).

Handling in the dry:
With close to 15.000km’s on these tyres, I have yet to fault them regarding their handling in the dry. They maintain their grip quite well, respond well and give me a safe feeling while I am driving around gravel, mud & bitumen throughout Tasmania. The only place I didn’t take them was on the beach itself.

I did push them a bit more in a ‘racing’ mode on some of the warmer days & found that when pushed speed wise and with quicker steering, the tyres feel like they become spongy & sluggish in their feedback. Then again, you are not buying these tyres for a racing vehicle. It is comfort, safety and bang for buck.

Handling in the wet:
I’ve been feeling safe & comfortable with the Cooper ATT’s on the RAV4. Having pushed the tyres in corners & roundabout during wet weather I was impressed with the performance of the tyres. Granted, the RAV4 we drive is only a 2WD, but the Cooper ATT’s maintained good road feedback, responsiveness and grip overall.

Handling offroad / gravel:
With the RAV4 only being a 2WD we did not venture onto any 4WD tracks. Tasmania still has a decent range of beaches & dirt road / gravel roads that can be chosen to have a bit of fun on. The Cooper Discoverer ATT did not disappoint. Happily eating up anything we threw in front of it. Mind you, we drive a Toyota RAV4 2WD, so our outings into offroad were limited more by the car then the tyre. I have no doubt that if you put the ATT’s on a 4WD capable vehicle it would show even more of its strengths.

Noise of the Cooper Discoverer ATT
They make some noise, but nothing that would personally put me off from purchasing these tyres. Let’s face it, if you want tyres that can get you in and out of pretty much every scenario you can think of with an SUV, you’ll have to be prepared to give a little bit as well.

Having said that, the noise from these tyres still allowed me and my wife to have conversations without too much trouble.

Overall
If you drive a medium sized SUV/CUV vehicle and you’re looking for tyres that will last you the distance, score well on a broad spectrum of roads and you don’t mind a ‘little bit’ more noise than your HT tyres, the Cooper ATT Discoverer should very much be on your radar.
