Unleashing the Yokohama Geolandar AT G015: Our Long-Term Review!

Unleashing the Yokohama Geolandar AT G015: Our Long-Term Review!

We're meeting up with Dave, who has been testing Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 tyres for a long term tyre review. Dave has driven the Yokohama AT G015 tyres for over 20.000k's on the road, gravel and in the mud. In this video we're going to put him on our local 4x4 track to find out what he thinks of the @YokohamaMotorsports tyres. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For more reviews visit: https://www.tyrereview.com.au ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Full Transcript: - G'day, Jared from Tyre Review here. Today I'm sitting in the car with Dave. And Dave has been testing the Yokohama G015, all terrain tyres for about the last 20,000 Ks. These tyres are actually ones that we gave to Dave after our trip to the sand last year. So you might remember some of those videos that we did which we might be able to pop up here and tags. But Dave you've had them for 20,000 Ks now. In general, how have the Yokohama's been? - They've been quite impressive actually. They're exceptionally good on the highway and good in the wet. and I've been quite surprised on the gravel roads that they've been absolutely fantastic. They come in I think it is a 70% on road 30% off road sort of tyre. So yeah, they've been really good in that regard. - Of course so I'm thinking about on the road, start off with in the wet. You've got a dual cab you. Do you notice that they slip and slide a bit around the roundabout and that sort of stuff in the wet? - Not so much. They've been a really, really good tyre in that regard. I carry a toolbox with some recovery gear in the back. I did notice once I had that out and after a dry period it did rain. A bit of grease on the road, I did lose a bit of traction. But overall, they've been a really good tyre. I think if you had a canopy on the back and had a bit of extra weight continuously, you wouldn't have any issues with it. - Yeah. And just for reference, these are 265/70R17s you've got on the Hilux? - Yeah, that's right. They're a 265/70R17s. - Yeah. Awesome so and then you mentioned earlier that you tow a few bit so how do I do with towing? - Yes I towed a up to two tonne trailer, tandem trailer and also a camper trailer. So in between it took the both of those and they rate it up to two tonne, have been exceptionally good in that regard, especially again on gravel roads, on wet roads, highway and so forth. - Yeah, yeah. - I do a lot of towing through Central Highlands of Tasmania have been through snow and pretty average gravel conditions. And they've been really really good. - Yeah we went Dave came with us on that snow trip we did last year, as well, that was fantastic. What about on the gravel when you don't have a camper on? How do you find them on the gravel? - Really good. Every now and again with other tyres you do feel your vehicle especially vehicle it's light in the rear with these dual cab Hilux that just dips out a little bit you don't notice it too much with this tyres. - Yap - They've been very reliable and confident - Yap. - Tyre on in gravel conditions. - So I've got a challenge for you now we're actually sitting at the trial head of a fairly difficult trial. Okay, you to drive through while you talk me through how they're doing the mark. So we're just about to try this dirty bit, let's see how we go Dave. - Alright I've just got it at a in high four at this stage-- - Yap, so-- - So we can actually put it in light to control a bit of the slide. So this is our local little test track, which has a good array of interesting parts. But this is Dave's first time on the track so-- - First time. Yep. - Yep. - Off you go though. - Alright. So, how do you find them? On this sort of like we're going through a bit of a bogey pile at the moment? Do they sort of feel or are they? How do they go? - I felt like just before I mind you, I was just using compression from the vehicle to sort of control that a little bit down that descent. A little bit of sliding there. - Yep. - It should be fun coming back out if we come back the same way. We are. - I think-- - There we go then. - Yeah, lets see if we get lost. We're just about to go up a muddy slope after a little creek crossing. It's beautiful in here. Let's see how we go on this next little crossing. - Roger. - Not a crossing sorry. Next little hill. - Yeah. - So again looks pretty slippery so we'll see how we go-- - Its been raining-- - It's gonna be bumpy. - It's been riding downhill that's a hole. I don't think that hole was here last time. Full Transcript can be found on https://www.tyrereview.com.au/yokohama-geolandar-at-g015-long-term-review

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT G016 Long Term Review

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT G016 Long Term Review

We've taken the Yokohama Geolandar X-AT G016 around the block for over 10,000K's. Playing around in mud, sand, on the farm & highway to see how the Yokohama X-AT's hold up. These tyres are designed as a balance between mud terrain tyres and all terrain tyres. Essentially making it a mud tyre in a business suit. Let's see how the Yokohama Geolandar X-AT G016 went during our long term review. Full Transcript: - Gudday, Jared from Tyre Review here, and I've spent the last 10,000 Ks on the Yokohama X-AT, that's the GO16 for those playing along at home. And we brought it up here because this is where it belongs. We're on a muddy track, and we've just got to the top of the thing and driven through a puddle that's right there. It's a bit bigger than your average puddle. The GO16 it's an interesting beast. It's halfway between the all terrain and mud terrain. So, at the start, before I actually started driving on this tyre, I actually spent a little while on the mud terrain, just to give it a bit of a balance because I've used the all terrain before, but I hadn't used the Yokohama mud terrain. And one of the things that I noticed about the mud terrain is it's the same as most mud terrains is that you can feel at low speeds. You can feel the tread prints and you can hear it at the highest speeds. And I was curious to see if the GO16 which is again, it's halfway between. So and it's also got the three ply carcass, which is very similar to the mud terrain tyre, but it's got a more all terrain tyre inspired tread pattern where you've actually got these sipes here, that are wider. So you're actually gonna be better off road, but they've actually got a denser packed tread block in the middle. So I really wanted to see what characteristics they pulled from the all-terrain and what characteristics they pulled from the mud terrain. And I've gotta say, I'm impressed with them off road. I can get dirty and I had some fairly serious little spots coming up here and we've taken them in the snow and that sort of thing before. They get dirty no problem. It's more on the road where I want to sort of talk about this a little bit more. So I'll get back in the car and we'll go for a drive down the hill and we'll talk to you again on the road. So we're on the gravel now, and these tyres also perform really well on the gravel. Like they're surefooted and I tend to drive fast as you know, and oh, sorry to the speed limit, and they're certainly well and truly capable of keeping up with me on that, and they're also really good on the blacktop. The only spots that I've found, where they, are not quite keeping in mind that these are an aggressive all-terrain or at time mud terrain, depending on hey, look at it, almost think of it as a, like they've taken the mud tyre and actually stuck it into a business suit or at least a polo shirt so that, it's a mud tyre carcass with the all-terrain tyre grip. but in the wet, they sort of exhibit a little bit of the characteristics of a mud tyre and a little bit of the characteristics of an all terrain tyre. So they've actually got a little bit of the mud tyre under steer, a little bit of the all-terrain tyre oversteer, so around a round about you can lose the tyre a little bit if you're going a little bit too quickly. You can lose the nose a little bit if you're going, if you're not putting your weight in the right place. So just be a little bit careful there. So drive to the conditions as you should be doing anyway, you shouldn't be driving like a nit like me, and also dry traction is just slightly down. And so I noticed on some quick corners, but also if you're doing a quick turn on the bitumen, then you may find that they're just not quite holding on as well as an all terrain would, but again, these are mud tyres in a business suit so what do you expect? But otherwise great tyre, can't see any real problems with them. They perform fantastically. And what I would probably recommend these tyres for is actually for the traditional Overlander. So have people who might be driving around the country, who would normally choose a noisy mud terrain tyre. Choose these, because these are the mud tyre carcass, but they've actually got a grip or trip patent that actually has some good grip, but it's still well and truly comfortable on the road and is not noisy. There is perhaps a little bit of tyre whine that you might notice at around about 80 sort of Ks or that's what I got. But that's not noticeable. And for the trade off that you get for a tyre like this, it's totally worth it. So that's my review. The GO16 X-AT from Yokohama. Thanks, y'all.

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT, AT and MT - What's the difference?!

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT, AT and MT - What's the difference?!

Yokohama has announced the new Geolandar X-AT, but what's the difference between that tyre and the Geolandar AT and Geolandar MT? We took the Yokohama Geolandar X-AT, AT & MT on a snow trip the other day, so decided to make a quick video describing some of the basic differences between these tyres. Yokohama Geolandar Extreme All Terrain Tyre (X-AT) on the left. Yokohama Geolandar Mud Terrain Tyre (MT) in the centre. Yokohama Geolandar All Terrain Tyre (AT) on the right. The Yokohama Geolandar Extreme All Terrain Tyres (X-AT) are on our Ford Ranger Tyre Review test vehicle and we will rack up 10,000km's before we perform a long term review for you. If you enjoy this video, don't forget to subscribe for more! Full Transcript: - Good day. Jared from Tyre Review here, I thought I'd take the opportunity seeing as we've actually got all three of the Yokohama, AT, X-AT, and their MT tyre here, to just show you a bit of the difference. So, the first thing I thought I'd do, is show you the difference in the tread pattern. So you see how the regular on-brand tyre actually got pretty good dense tread pattern. Which means it's going to be better on road, it's going to have better grip on the road, on the regular road, and the tread is not quite as big as perhaps the X-AT, which is the brand new one, which they've just released. The tread pattern is deeper, it's got these bigger blocks with the bigger gaps in between. And then you've the MT, which has got much, much bigger gaps here, all the way through, and there's less actual tread that hits the road. So these are going to be noisier, these are not going to be quite as noisy, these are going to be pretty quiet, these are going to grip better on the road, these are going to be a little bit in between, And these are going to be less grip, but these are obviously going to rip and tear into the off-road more. These are going to be a cross between the all-terrain and the mud-terrain. So these are perhaps the best of both worlds, depending on what sort of driver you are. So, that's the Yokohama AT, X-AT and MT. Our Yokohama Geolandar X-AT website article can be found here: https://www.tyrereview.com.au/yokohama-geolandar-x-at-studio-overview

Yokohama X-AT Tyre Studio Review - First Look at the unreleased X-AT Tyres

Yokohama X-AT Tyre Studio Review - First Look at the unreleased X-AT Tyres

In this video we take a look at the Yokohama Tyre Geolandar X-AT (Extreme All Terrain) tyre. At Tyre Review, we got our hands on this as-yet unreleased Yokohama Geolandar X-AT tyre, and had a squiz at it in the studio 🤘 The Yokohama Geolandar X-AT will also be put on our Tyre Review Ford Ranger for a long term review. We will be testing this all terrain tyre for at least 10.000 km's, so keep your eyes peeled for the long term review, coming soon. In the meantime, enjoy the Yokohama X-AT tyre Studio Overview. Full transcript of the video: Today we've got the new Yokohama X-AT in the warehouse. This tyre isn't even released yet, so stick with me, and we'll have a closer look at it. Good day. Today in the warehouse we've got the Yokohama X-AT, and I'm excited, because this tyre has not even been released yet around the world. It's being released on the 1st of August, and we're probably some of the first people to actually have the tyre here, to have even see the tyre. This is, they call it an X-AT so it's one of those increasing breed of tyres that are becoming available, that is not an all-terrain, it's not a mud terrain, but it's got characteristics of both. So it's got maybe the comfort and low noise of an all-terrain tyre, but it's also got the aggressiveness and maybe the durability of a mud terrain tyre or somewhere in between. I'm actually really interested to see how this tyre goes. Let's just take a quick look at the details of the tyre. The one of the first things you notice with this tyre is that it's actually got two different sidewall patterns. So it's got these ones here which look a little bit like daggers, and they're pretty aggressive, and they say that's gonna help with traction. And then these ones on the other side, are more sort of up and down. So depending on the look you want for your car, you can actually have your choice of sidewall. Let's have a look at the thread face. This is where the X-AT is really quite different from a regular all-terrain, in that it actually has these significantly deeper gaps. And that are gonna help get all that mud and sand crap out from the tyre and help it keep gripping. Significant spacing on the shoulder blocks, and even significant spacing all the way through the actual thread pattern itself. In terms of noise blocking, Yokohama have actually said that this zig-zag groove is actually gonna help with keeping the noise down as well. Because, remember this is a pretty aggressive tyre, so keeping that noise down is a really important thing for both the longevity of the tyre, in terms of how long you actually want to keep it on there, and also for mental, yeah see it's not so freaking noisy. Yokohama also say that basically they built into this tyre improved puncture resistance. So they've build in extra sidewall that you would get in, that you normally get in a regular all-terrain tyre, and they've also got a full nylon cap in here, so it's actually gonna be less likely to get punctures. They build in some stone rejector technology as well, we've also got this varied length blocks which they say are gonna be more likely to be able to cup into the, into the terrain. You're less likely to lose that grip, as you're actually driving off-road. So these are the new Yokohama X-AT, and these next to be going on the tyre of the new test Ford Ranger, for the next 10,000 k's or so. And that's actually me who's gonna be driving that one. So, I'm really interested to see how that go, both on the road off the road, with the family, with the suspension in the Ranger is a bit hard, so we'll see if that the comfort factor's up there, but we'll report back in 10,000 k's. Oh, and before I forget, don't forget to like and subscribe for more videos like this. We're putting them out once every couple of weeks. Oh, and the cameraman is signalling to me, don't forget to hit the little bell button as well so you get notified when a video has come up. Thank you. Yokohama Neova AD08R Long Term Review

Yokohama Neova AD08R Long Term Review

Al, Chief Pilot of the Tyre Review WRX STI, has driven on these tyres for more than 10,000km - actually, 17,000km! These k's including time commuting to work, on the track, as well as a trip up the south east coast of Australia. Check out the vid for Al's opinion on the tyres after spending some quality time with them. Full Transcript: Jared: Hi I'm Jared from Tyre Review and I'm here with Al from Tyre Review and today we're, and I'm actually going to read this off the tyres so I don't forget, today we're reviewing the Yokohama ADVAN NEOVA AD08 R tyres which are semi-slicks for racing. Al: That's right. Jared: Al's got them on his 2018 STi? Al: That's right. 2018 STi. Jared: Cool. How many Ks have you done so far Al? Al: I've been about 17,000 on this set of tyres. I did about 13,000 on the original set and then swapped to these ADVAN wheels with the new tyres. Jared: Yeah. Cool. So you took them to the race track yesterday and that's what these are bred for. I mean they are semi-slick tyres, so these are serious semi-race tyres probably almost as racing as you can get while still being a road tyre. How did they race today? Al: They were great. Once they warmed up, they absolutely stick to it. I was following another light model WRX and he just couldn't keep up through the corners. He was on the stock tyres and I was just pulling around him. Jared: Cool. And through the day did they fade or anything like that or are they pretty good through the day? Al: They were really good. I noticed them getting quite soft once they really warmed up, but you just got to give them 10, 15 minutes to warm down and then you're good to go again, really. Jared: Yep. Awesome. And what about for daily driving? This is your car that you drive to work, how has it been for your daily driving sort of? Al: They've actually been surprisingly good. I've been very surprised by how well they ride. They're not that rough. You would think they were rough being almost a race tyre, but they're actually quite good. The dry grips very good and I'm surprised with the wet grip. It's been surprisingly good for a semi-slick I reckon. Jared: Although you did say you were aquaplaning the other day. Al: Yeah. In really heavy rain, aquaplaning will be an issue because there's not that much water rejection going on here. Jared: What about noise? Al: The noise? It's definitely a little bit louder than the stock ADVAN Sports, but it's really not that bad, really. This cars quite loud. Jared: You can't hear it over the pipes that you got in there. Yeah. Al: I was going to say this cars quite loud anyways. Jared: Yes. Yes. Al: It kind of fits. Yeah. Jared: Cool. And you took them on a road trip up to New South Wales, I don't know how many thousand Ks that was, but you did a fair few. Al: Yeah. Ride up from Melbourne all the way around the east coast up to Sydney and back. Around 3.5 thousand Ks in total. Absolutely no dramas whatsoever. Jared: Relatively comfortable for touring as well. Al: Definitely yeah. I'd fully recommend them. Jared: Yep. Who would you recommend these tyres for? Al: I think anyone who's got a bit of a faster car, like mine. Not too worried about having to buy new tyres every 25,000 Ks, and you just want something that's actually going to perform like your car can. Jared: Yep. And something that's good for the occasional track day as well. Al: Yeah. Exactly. These are brilliant for if you're going on track days. Jared: Yep. Awesome. Well cool. Thank you very much Al. Al: Cool. Thank you. Jared: Cheers. Jared: To see our full written review and ratings breakdown, visit tyrereview.com.ay

Full Transcript: Jared Mendham: I'm Jared from Tyre Review. I'm over here on the West Coast of Tasmania for the Tyre Review winter challenge, and I'm staying here with Rob, who's been driving on the Yokohama Geolandar MT G003s for the last weekend. Rob, do you mind just describing the tracks that we've been driving on this weekend? Robert Heuke: First day we did Montezuma track. A lot of mud. We then did Killarney's yesterday. A bit of rock, bit of mud, bit of everything in there. Today messing around a little dunes a little bit. Jared Mendham: Yeah. How did they perform in mud? Robert Heuke: I found no problem with them at all. Fantastic. Jared Mendham: Yep. Robert Heuke: Yep. Jared Mendham: Cleared out all right? Robert Heuke: Seemed to clear out all right. Jared Mendham: Yep. Robert Heuke: I probably didn't lose traction at all, really ... no, I didn't think it did. Jared Mendham: I was just thinking, I don't think you actually got pulled out at all this weekend, did you? Robert Heuke: Might have got tricked into a puddle at one stage. Jared Mendham: Actually, there was one where some fellows with 37s had met a deep hole, so you had no luck with that one. But otherwise, for normal puddles you just went straight through. Robert Heuke: Yep. No dramas at all. Jared Mendham: Yep. Robert Heuke: Yeah, that would [inaudible 00:01:51] ... Oh great. Jared Mendham: Cool, and on the rock? Robert Heuke: Found that they gripped really well. Jared Mendham: Yep. Robert Heuke: Didn't feel like I was losing traction. That was great. Jared Mendham: Sure. How did they go on the road? Robert Heuke: On the road? No dramas at all. Fantastic only. Probably there hadn't been much air in them, they didn't feel so good, but let a little bit of air in on the road, a lot better. Jared Mendham: What sort of pairs are you running on the road then? Robert Heuke: About 32. 32 and a half, I think. Jared Mendham: Oh, okay. That's quite low, really. Robert Heuke: Yeah but, well I found it comfortable. Jared Mendham: Yep. Robert Heuke: First day there on 40, or just under 40 and I just found it a little bit firm. Jared Mendham: Interesting. Overall, how would you rate the tyres? Robert Heuke: One to 10? Jared Mendham: Go for one to 10 if you want. Robert Heuke: I'd mark them a 10. Jared Mendham: Oh really? 10? Robert Heuke: I think so. Jared Mendham: Ladies and gentlemen, well we have a 10. Thank you very much. Robert Heuke: No worries.

The key thing that many people don't consider, though, are the factors that should be influencing your tyre choice. It's not a simple either/or, as there are options to be considered when looking at tyres. Jared answers these questions, the factors you should consider, and more, while using examples of 7 of the best All-Terrain tyres on the market today. We missed a trick with the BFG KO2. They're actually three ply in load range D and above. This means generally 17" and above, but there are a couple of sizes that are still two ply, so it's worth checking if this is something that is key to your tyre choice 👍 Timestaps 00:00 Intro 00:47 What to Consider 1:58 Comfort 3:52 Michelin LTX Force 5:00 Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 5:47 Falken Wildpeak AT3 7:05 BFGoodrich KO2 A/T 8:14 Maxxis Razr RT 9:25 Toyo Open Country R/T 10:40 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT 11:16 Summary 12:04 Outro
