A few years 225/50R19 19530 August 25, 2026
I've always been a conservative driver because I was involved in a major collision when I was younger, as a passenger; the driver was speeding in the wet, we slid off the road around a bend and slammed into a lamp post. So, I have always been paranoid about speed and especially driving on wet roads. I've been driving for over 40 years now and I had always bought mid spec tyres or whatever I could afford at the time; with the mindset of "if I drive carefully, I will always be safe." However, it was during times of emergencies when I needed to stop suddenly that was my greatest concern with cheaper tyres, so I always drove under the speed limit to try and ensure greater safety.  In 2024 I upgraded to the brand new Hybrid 2nd Generation TOYOTA CHR KOBA FWD with 225/50R19 size tyres and was extremely happy when they came factory fitted with the MICHELIN e PRIMACY I was a little sceptical about the larger 19" tyres, as they say larger tyres have a rougher ride, but that was not the case. These tyres are extremely smooth and comfortable to drive on. I have now travelled almost 20,000km. I have to say that I am extremely impressed with these tyres. I have travelled on every type of road possible in this car from Melbourne (where I purchased the vehicle, to my hometown of Wollongong- travelling 1,300km over 2 days) I drove on city and suburban roads, to back country and winding mountain roads, dirt roads and long stretches of freeways, in all kinds of weather from sunshine to torrential rain and light snow on the alpine peaks in the snowy mountains. I found the Primacy e’s to be very grounded. My steering felt a lot more responsive. I do a lot of freeway driving and I've driven great distances including 8 hours of daily driving on long distance holiday trips in 40°C heat on hot freeways with only a couple of short breaks; but I don't just stick to the freeways, I like to take the country back road scenic routes and the tyres are so smooth to drive on, even on rough old roads the ride is still quite comfortable. Most importantly is the good grip, especially in the wet. I have always felt very safe driving with the e Primacy’s, whether alone with no load or passengers and luggage carrying a heavier load. These tyres are judged as having a slightly longer stopping distance to similar tyres like the Primacy 4, however, I found that I had plenty of time to stop in any type of emergency. I had a car pull out straight in front of me in the pouring rain and before I could hit the brakes the autonomous braking beat me to it and I came to a sudden and quick, even and grounded stop, without even skidding! I had a similar experience travelling on a dry road at 100km/h when a kangaroo jumped out in front of me; instinctively I hit the brakes and again the tyres did not even screech on the road and the kangaroo jumped away safely. Most importantly, the e Primacy's have kept me safe. From the comfortable ride, the low road noise, the perfect grip in dry conditions, especially on tight winding mountainous bends; and it's the confidence that I feel in the safety whilst driving on these tyres.  These tyres are specifically made for hybrid and electric vehicles; with their low rolling resistance providing added fuel savings, allowing for more distance covered per tankful. As my vehicle is a hybrid, I already get great fuel economy, but the e Primacy gives me even greater fuel economy as they are specifically designed to be fuel efficient with their low rolling resistance. TyreReview states “Energy Passive Compound, CoolRunning Sidewalls, and slim belt design work together to minimize energy loss”…also describing the Primacy e’s, “MaxTouch Construction evenly distributes forces across the contact patch for extended tread life. U-shaped grooves with EverGrip technology ensure effective water evacuation and excellent wet performance throughout the tyre's life” My 1.8L Toyota CHR has a 43L tank, and when the tank is full the kilometres on the fuel monitor displays 830km until empty, however I always achieve 1,000km of travel per tank. Toyota states that: “The Second GEN CHR 1.8L has an average fuel consumption of 4L/100km, however real world fuel consumption is reportedly 5 - 5.5L/100km with freeway driving and city and suburban driving at 3.8 - 4.2L/100km range”. Michelin states: “The e Primacy tyres saves up to 0.21L/100km”. However, surprisingly enough, in the almost 20,000km's I've driven, with 80% of my driving being on the freeway or long distance country back roads, with about 15% suburban driving and 5% city driving: Despite Toyota’s claim of; “Under your specific driving breakdown (80% freeway, 15% suburban, 5% city), your real-world fuel economy is predicted to sit between 4.6 - 5L/100km.” Yet, I have not reset the fuel efficiency calculation since I purchased the car, and I'm amazed my fuel economy has remained at a steady constant average of 4.3L/100km! Well below both Toyota and Michelin’s fuel economy predictions!   These tyres are highly recommended for hybrid, full electric vehicles or for any passenger vehicle owner who wants to achieve lower fuel consumption, due to their low rolling resistance - and my very low fuel consumption is proof of that claim; along with my conservative driving, whilst using fuel economical hybrid driving techniques which has also assisted in reducing my fuel consumption considerably lower than predicted; plus my vehicle only requires cheaper 91 Octane fuel. After almost 20,000km, my tyres have plenty of tread depth left and I would expect they will easily reach the higher end of ‘TyreReviews stated (maximum tread life of 75,000km to 85,000km)’: which states; “With a highly conservative driving approach, smooth hybrid regeneration techniques, and factory-fitted  with Michelin e Primacy tyres, the longest possible tyre tread life you can expect is between 75,000km and 85,000km.” I highly recommend MICHELIN e PRIMACY tyres; they excel in every area, particularly with low rolling resistance - providing a quiet and comfortable ride with outstanding fuel economy, highly adequate handling wet road safety. They provide highly adequate grip and stopping distance. Honestly, I could not ask more from a tyre. I don't think people realise that although safety technology in cars has upgraded dramatically in the last few years, your tyres are the only thing that keep you, your passengers and your car safely grounded. I cannot praise these tyres enough, I have never felt safer and I know I can rely on these tyres no matter what the condition of the roads are that I am driving on, the weather conditions or any emergencies that arise, I have every faith in these tyres because they have proven themselves in every way possible, type particularly excel in reduced fuel economy and long lasting tread wear. I will most definitely be replacing them with these again when these ones wear out - eventually that is. I know I have many years to easily save up for a new set. They are worth every cent and definitely save you money in the long-term.
