Pirelli Launches New P Zero Range in Malaysia
Pirelli launches the all-new P Zero (5th Gen) tyre range. Find out how its enhanced steering response, braking stability, and lower noise suit Australian roads.
24 Sep 2025
Pirelli has unveiled the fifth-generation P Zero, targeting the core of the ultra-high-performance (UHP) segment for fast road cars, prestige sedans and performance SUVs. The launch programme at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit highlighted tangible step-changes in steering response, braking stability and cabin refinement, backed by early independent test wins in wet/dry handling, braking and aquaplaning.
What's changed?
Rather than a compound tweak, the 5th-gen P Zero is a ground-up evolution. Pirelli says a reworked tread geometry, contact patch and groove design, developed using advanced simulation and AI-assisted optimisation, help the tyre lay its footprint more evenly under load. In practice, that delivered:
- Cleaner turn-in with a more linear build-up of grip mid-corner
- Shorter, calmer stops, with improved stability under ABS
- Lower perceived cabin noise on coarse-chip surfaces
These updates sit under Pirelli’s "Eco-Safety" development approach, aiming to reduce the traditional trade-offs between grip, wear and efficiency.

The new P Zero is impressive on track
On-track impressions from Sepang International Circuit
Across passenger hot laps with pro drivers and self-driven sessions, the new P Zero felt easy to drive fast. Front-axle bite is crisper, rear-axle behaviour is predictable, and transient responses feel tidier than the outgoing tyre. For a road-first UHP, the key takeaway is how composed it remains when pushed.
A short back-to-back on comparable vehicles with P Zero E reinforced how the family splits: P Zero E majors on rolling efficiency and very low noise for EVs/PHEVs, while the standard P Zero feels a touch more alive on turn-in and quicker to take a set in rapid direction changes.
The P Zero family
- P Zero (5th Gen): Road-first UHP benchmark — fast, friendly and calm on the daily grind.
- P Zero E: EV/PHEV specialist — triple-A EU label across sizes, ultra-low noise, compounds tuned to stretch range.
- P Zero R: Sharper road pace — extra bite and precision for powerful road cars & SUVs without sacrificing civility.
- P Zero Trofeo RS: Road-legal semi-slick — built for track consistency and peak performance, with just-enough wet reassurance for the drive home.
How will the new P Zero family handle Australian roads?
Australian highways and back roads are a tough test for UHP tyres, thanks to coarse-chip surfaces, long distances and weather that can swing quickly.
- Refinement on coarse-chip: The new P Zero’s lower perceived cabin noise is a quality-of-life upgrade on typical Aussie freeway textures.
- Wet-weather confidence: Strong aquaplaning resistance and wet braking performance are core improvements you’ll notice when summer storms roll in.
- Fitment spread: Expect broad coverage across performance sedans, coupes and SUVs common in Australian garages.
Tech highlights (at a glance)
