Simply put noisy, woeful in the wet, and lack any form of meaningful feedback from the road. I’m due for a new pair of rear tyres at 26,000ks. And while they may seem like good value, they’re far from. At just under half the wear life of previous sets, without half handling of them. Which is almost an upside, now I can replace them with something that’ll give back the enjoyment that had me buy a BMW in the first place.

There a good tyre to put on a car if you were selling it or if you needed a cheap set to get you out of trouble but I wouldn’t rate these a great tyre. I just bought my car and these were on it. So like I said, good for selling a car with wheels that work.

I had the Nexen N'fera RU5's fitted on my Discovery4 in February 2017. Due to an almost fatal accident caused by a factory fitted Pirelli that failed in dramatic fashion while travelling at 110kph on the freeway. The sales guy was full of praise for the Nexen brand telling me that Porsche were using this tyre. Learnt my lesson, do your own research in future. This is my first SUV so had not done much research on 4WD tyres. The RU5 seemed like good value at the fitted price as I was replacing all five. The trouble started from the moment I left the tyre shop. The tyres were noisy, jumpy ifyou hit the brakes hard and needed the air topping up every few days. In the first year of owning the Disco, it had needed one wheel alignment. After fitting the Nexen's in February 2017, the steering just never seemed right again. It had two more wheel alignments at the place ofpurchase in 2017 before I gave up and went to a local car tyre shop. The store manager right up said the tyres were impossible to work with, after three goes of rotatingand road testing they got everything aligned and even then they weren't happy with it. He noted then that the outer edges (inside and outside) were scrubbing out dramatically more than the centre of the tyre. That was in March 2018, at that time the tyres had only travelled 16,000kms.Between March andSeptember, I have had three punctures repaired in three different tyres. After 20 years ofdriving and NEVER had a puncture before I had a Nexen tyre, Idon't think it was my driving or bad luck. By September 2018, it needed another wheel alignment. When I went back to collect the car, the manager said he could not let me leave with the state the tyres were in. They were completely scrubbed out on the edges and would not pass a roadworthy. Since having the Nexen's put on, I have had the brake pads replaced as the tyres just don't pull up well. The tyres were awful in the wet, slipping on placid corners and there is no way I would even test them at any speed. In the end I have been taking my partners Volvo on days when it has rained as I just didn't trust the tyres enough. Dry or wet, they were noisy and even though the Disco has air suspension, you would never know it as the RU5's are unforgiving on all but perfectly smooth roads. So, five tyres that lasted 23,000kms and have costthesame again in extra maintenance over that time, I rate them as absolute rubbish. All five tyres have a new life now, in my next door neighbours sandpit for the kids. I have now done a ton of research before selecting my new tyres, Goodyear have won this competition. The Disco feels like a brand new car again. Nexen Tyres - Don't waste your money
