Continental CrossContact AX6 Reviews

Continental Logo

The perfect fit for any driver who spends most of their time on the road, but requires more traction when heading off the beaten track.

Key Features

  • Additional off-road traction and grip - The open tread pattern of the new CrossContact® AX6 maximises the edges and the contact area which provides additional off-road traction. Further traction grooves with gripping teeth prevent the loose surface from sliding through the tread grooves. That way the tyre gets more grip.
  • Increased wet traction and braking on slippery roads - Thanks to the Silica Tread Compound, the polymer structure is able to grip on slippery roads. In addition, the new design of the highly siped pattern improves the water displacement resulting in increased grip for exceptional traction and shorter braking distances under wet conditions.
  • Improved overall durability - Large tread blocks and the tough tread compound minimise the stone retention and resist cutting and chipping which leads to excellent durability.
  • Substantial road noise reduction - The innovative design of the new CrossContact® AX6 with noise blockers blocks the sound waves leaving the tyre’s centre. This technology ensures reduced road noise for a smooth and quiet ride.

I mainly drive on the highway and tow a camper on road trips, and the only off-roading I do is very light, like to a campsite on a gravel road, or grass and up the beach occasionally.  I also rotate my tyres on every 10,000k service.  I set my tyres up via the 4 psi rule so I run 34psi front, 31psi rear.  I use AT tyres for that added strength for light off-roading and longevity over HT tyres.  My main aim was for a tyre that was good in the wet, quiet and had good comfort.  I decided against going an LT rated tyre that I normally get,  and am happy to say that these are BY FAR the best all terrain tyre i have ever had for quietness, wet and dry grip and comfort.  Previous to the AX6, I had Falken Wildpeaks due to the reviews on this site.  They were good, but after a couple of years, they got hard and the noise and the wet road performance was terrible.  I sold them on marketplace with 8mm of tread remaining.  Hankook RF10 - terrible noise and dry and wet performance was not good.  Toyo AT - poor ride comfort.  If you mainly tow, head up the beach or just commute to work and want an AT tyre that is quiet with good grip in wet or dry conditions, do NOT go past these!  I have never bought the same brand of tyre twice in a row, but I absolutely will with these.

Wearing really well, hardly noticeable after 15k. They're quieter than the highway tyres I had on before and they perform the same in the wet as dry. Love em. Only negative is acceleration suffers a bit but there's a while lot more rubber there than a standard tyre. Look the goods and going slightly larger on means my speed is now pretty much spot on.

Bought these in 2/2022, for great price online & fitted locally & aligned. Continental had a special price, only paying for fitting, while delivery was negligible! I can feel them scrambling up nearby hill on cold bitumen in the mornings. No slipping & prodigious grip in wet & dry roads & gravel too - they’re awe inspiring. And we can’t hear them on bitumen, their noise-blockers work so well: on inside of shoulder blocks, a thin strip of tread continues the shoulder, while grip is exceptional & in 9 months now we’ve only done 12,000km. With the 1.5 tonne camper, they were excellent. So much confidence & no punctures so far! They’re such good value that I would like to buy another pair to have on hand.

A great tyre for the owner that does a lot of highway driving put still wants a tyre that can be used off road with confidence. Low road noise was major deciding factor in choosing Continental AX6 and so far they have delivered.
