Cooper S/T MAXX Reviews

Cooper Logo
The S/TMAXX was developed after three years of testing in Australia’s outback to give you the toughest all-terrain performance. Coupled with the famous Armor-Tek3 construction, the S/T MAXX will tackle anything Australia has.

Key Features

  • Micro-Gauge Sipes reduce cutting and chipping whilst improving traction in the wet, giving you enhanced stability and longevity.
  • Enhanced Buttress Design provides additional off-road traction and a rugged appearance, giving you abrasion resistance and sidewall protection.
  • Stone Ejector Ribs and Varied Channels easily eject stones and gravel, protecting the carcass from stone drilling and maintaining a clear tread for enhanced rough road traction.
  • On top of high tensile body plies, the S/T MAXX features Armor-Tek3 Construction - an additional third ply on an 8° angle. Unique Armor-Tek3 Construction is engineered to give you over 2.5 times* more tear and impact damage resistance by reducing the rubber gaps by 50% to give you peace of mind when driving off-road. *Compared to standard 2-ply tyres.
  • Silica and Natural Rubber Compound is uniquely formulated combining silica with natural rubber to reduce cut and chip off-road and improve wet traction on-road.

Fantastic 4wd tyres!! Super smooth, quiet and comfy for general around town and highway cruising, yet strong and durable with great grip for off road adventures. Can handle all types of weather without an issue.

I've used these tyres for minor 4x4 usage and they have been great I do drive on a lot of unsealed and dirt roads alot though and they are very trust worthy. In the wet on bitumen roads they are quite slippery. All in all a good tyre but maybe could be abit cheaper

They have been pretty good, I rotate them but they are a little noisy. Would definitely recommend them though.

These tyres came with the car when it was purchased and still had plenty of tread. No clue when it was installed in the car originally but have so far travelled 15000 odd km with them on very mixed driving condition and still have plenty of tread left- impressive wear. Not noisy around town although the decibels increase at the same rate as speed.Regularly put through its paces in gnarly off-roading conditions. Was once bogged in mud and rim spun inside the tyre, causing bead to be broken and leaking air. Parked the car, tyre deflated, whole weight of car resting on deformed tyre and couldn't do a thing as was away for three weeks. Pumped back up upon arrival and reseated on rim properly at the tyre shop and tyre still in perfect condition!Regularly aired down to 15psi to go offroads and have never had a puncture- if the sidewalls were any stiffer they should be doing yoga.Decent grip in the wet, but sports tyres these are not. Despite the excellent wear, they still hold a high riding two tonne vehicle firmly on the road in slippery conditions.Personally would not buy again as more off-roading trips are planned but if you do 70% tarmac, 30% dirt then the ST Maxx are awesome.

Not the best Tyre out there. Didn’t balance well on the rims, plenty of heel toe wear even while maintaining correct pressures. Had one failbaround the bead due to manufactures problem.

I purchased Cooper ST Maxxs on the advice of a friend. I wanted a tyre that would be quiet and confident on the road but give me as close to Mud-terrain tyre performance as money could buy. The ST Maxxs tick all those boxes and boy was I surprised when I really gave them a workout. Once I was cruising some fire trails around the Glasshouse with a mate in his Patrol with BFG Muddies and found myself stuck at the bottom of a big hill. Mud all around, could hardly walk it was that slushy. After a few minutes trying to get free under my own power, my Coopers flicking mud absolutely everywhere, I gave up and winched myself a short distance. As soon as I could straighten up and start using the old trick of turning left to right while keeping my revs up, the old girl started crawling and picking up pace quickly! Soon following, my friend tried to free himself with no luck despite his muddies and had to winch himself all the way to the top. That was when I realised these Coopers were really something. These tyres carried me from Brisbane to Sydney including some tough tracks in Coffs and the Blue Mountains and never let me down nor showed any signs of wear, stone chips or chunks of rubber missing. I am mighty impressed, especially after 20,000kms of mixed bitumen, gravel, dirt and rocks. I love these Coopers. I've used Bridgestone ATs and MTs as well as BFG KO2s in the past and none can even compare. My only mild complaint is the ST Maxxs make a bit of a muddy type hum when taking corners at speeds over 30km/h but beyond that I can't fault them. I'll probably come back to them even, when I upgrade to a D-Max in the near future. Given my experience I'd happily recommend these to anyone wanting a solid tyre for your fourby that'll do anything from touring, the work duties to hardcore 4x4 tracks. I'm sure they won't let you down.

+10 years of 4WDing in the Queensland outback and Opal fields and never a puncture with the Discoverer S/T's. Then one day I caught 'that rock' and needed the spare. The basically unused spare lasted 3 weeks before sun damage from being on the back door holder for over 10 years caused a rupture through the tread requiring the repaired punctured tyre to be refitted to the 4WD... Figure it's time now for a new set of tyres... I'll throw you a picture of how/what +10 years in the sun can weaken what seems to be otherwise a good tyre...

I do a lot of 4wdriving as well as bitumen driving. These tyres have never let me down and have done an excellent job Offroad. Tyre wear  is ok, was hoping for a few more km, but cost complain. I would buy again, no problem.
