I bought these tyres after reading one extensive tyre review from 2006. I work on remote, and metro, communications towers, so I was looking for the perfect All Terrain Tyre. I needed tyres which give good traction on the road as I do a lot of road driving, but tyres that would give me confidence to traverse hills in many different conditions. I didn’t need to pass large obstacles (as with recreational 4WD), but I needed a tyre that was great in all road conditions; be it slippy mud, snow, iced roads, gravel (lots of gravel!). I think the Pirelli ATR would be nearly impossible to beat, on road traction was fantastic, cornering a dual cab with ease and precision. Off road traction and confidence was also great, clearing gravel from treads, and rarely coming unglued from whichever surface I was on. This was most surprising as the tread doesn’t look as aggressive as most AT, but in my experience the ATR performs far better than most, particularly in tests that aren’t a straight run through a bog. These tyres rarely if ever understeered due to sideways slip, never caused roll in the tyre wall in energetic cornering. The ATR tyres were very relatable and never cause uncertainty in their response. The rubber compound survived tough rocks and heat very well, they are a very durable tyre. I travelled about 78000km in my set, with a lack of tyre rotation, and a busy work schedule which meant I didn’t check in on them very well. A calmer driver with rotation would almost certainly get far more life out of them. As far as negatives, one need to pay close attention to inflation levels and rotating the tyres. I noticed a little uneven wear between the inner and outer treads, this was easily fixed with adjusting tyre pressures and the wear was quite even after that. Also, these tyres do come a little unstuck in claggy mud. The tread doesn’t clear thick mud within one rotation and the tyre kind of glazed over with mud, sloppy mud didn’t cause many issues. Also I didn’t really try scaling rocks with these tyres, they grip well on uneven rocky gravel and flat rock, but climbing might not grip so well. These two considerations are probably expected in an All Terrain tyre. I don’t want to sound like a sponsor spot, but I do think if you are looking for the “perfect” all terrain tyre, these are definitely worth a try. I found no real fault and am totally curious if Pirelli haven’t just unearthed the true secret to the perfect, fit for all worlds tyre, save of course your weekend challenges, even then I think you’d be surprised!

Replaced Good Years with the Pirelli ATR tyres for our trek up north west to central west NSW . Fantastic grip in dirt, handled corrugations and sand with ease. These tyres are far the best I have owned and I have been driving for over 50 years!

Got these tyres prior to west NSW trek. Far superior tyres compared to previous Good Years. Great performance around Sydney and absolutely fantastic on the rocky corrugated tracks around far north west NSW

Bought these because of the famous Perelli name. General performance has been fine but they have worn a lot faster than my previous tyres which were Cooper ATRs. Mostly driving on rocky terrain and tyres seem to damage faster than they should. Would try something else next time!

Highly recommended. Have got close to 60000kms out of them on a variety of surfaces. Price is good given the distance i got out of them too. Have held up well carrying a 3 tonne patrol around. Well worth looking at if you are after a good all round tyre.
